Seed Technology Programme

General Description

It started its educational activities under the name "Seed Production Program" in 1996-1997 academic year. In 2017-2018 academic year, the name of the program has been changed to "Seed Technology".

Students who successfully graduate from the theoretical, practical and laboratory courses in this program are given “Associate Degree Diploma”.

Short Cycle

Students who have a score of 150 or higher in YTY score from Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) conducted by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) are placed in the program according to their preference.

Exemption exams are held at the beginning of each academic year for the "Foreign Language" and "Computer" courses in the curriculum. Students who pass the exam are exempted from these courses.

Being a high school graduate.

The aim of the Seed Technology Program is to train qualified technical staff who have sufficient knowledge and practice about certified seed production stages in the field of vegetables, field crops and ornamental plants, diseases and pests, processing, quality control, storage and preparation of these products.

 

1. Public institutions and organizations: Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Provincial and District Directorates, Research Institutes and Municipalities. 2. Agricultural Cooperatives: Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, Agricultural Sales Cooperatives and Agricultural Development Cooperatives. 3. Private Sector Enterprises: Seed production companies, seed sales companies, fertilizer and pesticide companies 4. Own businesses: Seed production, Seed sales dealership

At the end of the two-year education, students can continue their undergraduate education through Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). The undergraduate programs that can be transferred are: 1. horticulture 2. Plant Protection 3. Crop Production and Technologies 4. Organic Agriculture Management 5. Agricultural Biotechnology 6. Agricultural Genetic Engineering 7. Field Crops

 

Exams are administered according to the “Ege University Guidelines for Assessment and Evaluation ’. For each course taken on a semester basis, there will be a “midterm exam” within the period and a “final exam” at the end of the semester. In accordance with the content of the course written, oral, practical and laboratory exams are done. If you fail the course, you have the right to “make-up exam”, there is no "Summer School".

In order to graduate from the programme, the student must successfully complete all the courses available, obtain a grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully complete a 30-day professional internship.

There are one Assoc. Prof. Dr. and one Assist. Prof. Dr. in the program. There is a land infrastructure and ecology in which students can learn seed production techniques in the field of vegetables, field crops and ornamental plants. There is also a laboratory where seed quality tests are carried out.
